A European Affair
註釋"Robert (Bob) Spencer's early years were touched by two defining events of the first half of the twentieth century : the Great Depression and the second of two World Wars. Soon after that war's end he won the affection of a Canadian ex-wren -- at the time the first professional librarian at Canada House, London -- with whom he was to share a life-long attachment to Europe. Building on his wartime experienceoverseas and his later studies at the Universities of Toronto and Oxford, he devoted his thirty-five years at the University of Toronto to the history of Europe. Supported in this work -- both in Toronto and during extensive travels around Europe -- by his wife and three children, he emerged as an advocate for bringing Germany back into the family of European and Western nations." --
