註釋A copy, with notes of previous paging, made by Hayes for H.H. Bancroft, of portions, Oct. 16, 1849 - Jan. 14, 1850, of his overland diary kept on the Gila route to California. Supplied title page incorrectly describes it as: Diary ... of journey overland from Socorro to Warner's Ranch from Oct. 31, 1849, to Jan. 14, 1850. A digest of Captain Philip St. George Cooke's diary, Oct. 31 - Dec. 7, 1846, is inserted between the entries for Oct. 20 and Nov. 22, 1849, for which period there are no entries from Hayes' own diary (for this portion see BANC MSS C-E 64 no. 27). The last entry, Jan. 14, 1850, is incomplete and is followed by: Recapitulation [of distance travelled, Nov. 13 - Dec. 31, 1849].
