When you have ADHD, you have obstacles to trying strategies & skills. The biggest obstacle may be, first, remembering them &, second, practicing them when you do. The thing is, with ADHD, it's the nature of the beast to forget, procrastinate, & remain optimistic that tomorrow will be different. But, with ADHD, next time & tomorrow often mean never or too late. Why? Because you're unable to count on your brain to guide your attention & action toward your intentions. You need external guides. If partly blind, would you rely on sight to navigate the world? Squint, stare & see what happens? Likely you'd welcome external resources (e.g., a dog) to augment your vision. The good news? External guides surround you. Images, sounds, vibrations are external guides. They call your attention to all kinds of things. An exciting book cries, "Read me." A phone says "Look!" The trick to guides is having the right ones & reducing their competition (e.g., with social media). Guides offer the possibility of adaptive neurodiversity. Rather than being about changing your brain, guides are about knowing your brain and what gives you the best chance of mastery and control. In TRANSFORMING ADHD: SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE ATTENTION AND ACTION REGULATION SKILLS TO HELP YOU FOCUS AND SUCCEED, Greg Crosby, LPC & I had no room to include guides for the book's exercises. This e-book fills this gap & introduces many of its exercises to readers without the book. You'll have to experiment with them to see which work for you. If needed, the original book to which this is a companion has more details about, and examples of, the exercises. I designed the pages to be handouts of sorts, if you'd like to print them for your personal use (consider this my permission at least). Having them posted or placed where needed to guide your behavior works best. Posting them may also be one of your motivational strategies. This updated version has graphics and other visual changes added to enhance your experience with them and their usefulness. I wish you success.
