Following the Lewis and Clarke Expedition, two brothers who went as crew members find the promises made to the Indians were untrue. They plan a second expedition on their own to tell the Indians the truth of the impending takeover of their lands by the white man. Additionally, a priest threatens their peaceful existence by attempting to covert all Indians to Christianity, or to kill the Indians while trying, if unsuccessful. Only one brother comes through their ordeals, learning far more about life and God than he had ever imagined possible.
