Simon Elliott to Henry Knox on Business Matters and Foreign Affairs, 22 January 1799
註釋Elliot says that he is compelled to abandon all Idea of accepting my late appointment. Elliot cannot find anyone to take over his business, so it would be highly imprudent. Elliot says that nothing could warrant it but the actual Invasion of the Country, - or the certainty of a speedy and active War.
