Letters from Emery to his parents and two sisters in Kendall Mills, Me., mostly concerning his hauling business in San Francisco, Calif., his daily life, and personal and family matters. A few early letters are written from Murphy's Camp, Calif., where he mined for gold. The letters also mention the 1865 earthquake and the San Francisco and Bay Area water systems.
