註釋Except for Toronto, tourism is largely underdeveloped in the Lake Ontario Greenway, an area seen as having potential for new tourism and recreation development. This report summarizes the tourist market in the Greenway area, analyzes market and tourism/recreation product trends, and makes recommendations to advance the tourism, recreation, and economic potential of the Greenway. The report includes discussion of lessons to be learned from comparable trails, greenways, and waterfronts in the United States. The appendix contains results from a waterfront tourism survey, information on trends in residential and commercial/industrial development in Ontario, an outline of potential opportunities identified for the Greenway area, a review of comparable greenways and related types of attractions, a description of the Heritage Shores project (Port Hope and Cobourg), and profiles of Lake Ontario Greenway primary destination areas.
