註釋Robert Colgate, born in Kent, England, came to America on 28 May 1795. He arrived in America after sixty stormy days at sea. Robert had had an important place in Whig councils and therefore persecuted by the Tories. He landed in Baltimore and settled in Hartford county with his family. Losing the place which he had purchased, he traveled by stagecoaach to Delaware county, N.Y. Robert Colgate's wife was named Sarah Bowles.
