註釋Edward Deas Thomson (1800-1879) was born in Edinburgh. He spent almost fifty years of his life in New South Wales. Between 1837 and 1856 he was colonial secretary, a position second in importance only to that of governor and this enabled him to play a vital role in the colony's growth as a free society.
