註釋The GSIS Annual Meeting is held in conjunction with that of GSA,and the papers, posters and forums presented there are part of the broader GSA meeting.Oral presentations of the papers in this proceedings volume were given at the 2007 GSA Annual Meeting inDenver, Colorado, October 28th - 31st, 2007. The papers are arranged in the order in which they werepresented. As editor I made minor grammatical and spelling changes and appreciate the care with whichauthors prepared their manuscripts. The authors are solely responsible for the opinions and ideas expressedherein.Informed decision making for a sustainable earth depends on information being accessible to the public.The year 2007 marked the beginning of the International Polar Year and the International Year of PlanetEarth. Research will be generated from these two international events, but how much of it will beretrievable in the future. The theme for this proceedings volume is "making earth sciences informationaccessible to everyone." The papers included within examine the broad issues ofresearch and datapreservation through digitization, the importance of developing meta-data standards for informationretrieval, and the evolution of libraries within a digital framework.The proceedings volume is divided into three parts:1. Oral papers presented at the GSA Topical Session: "Geoscience Information: Making the EarthSciences Accessible to Everyone" on October 29, 2007.2. Posters presented at the GSA "Geoscience Information and Communication: Park your PublicLands by the Library" on October 31st, 2007.3. Reports of GSIS program sessions.
