Technologies for Travellers with Sensory Or Cognitive Disabilities
註釋This report profiles the difficulties that persons with sensory or cognitive disabilities may encounter while travelling, including interpreting visual communications, safe navigation and wayfinding, locating facilities and features, determining whether a desired destination has been reached, communicating with service providers, hearing public address announcements, operating technological devices such as ticket machines, and dealing with unexpected or stressful situations such as route deviations or emergencies. The report identifies technologies that can be used to improve transportation accessibility for such travellers, including audible signage and information products, tactile-based information, visual or computer-based information systems, alerting devices, use of standardized symbols, and non-technological solutions such as transportation staff awareness and sensitivity training. Constraints on the implementation of a strategy to address the accessibility and safety requirements of persons with a sensory or cognitive disability are discussed. Finally, recommendations regarding research and development opportunities and implementation of technological solutions are provided.
