註釋
These authors believe false allegations of sexual abuse have in recent years become a serious problem. In the past, most child sex abuse cases were discovered when a child spontaneously told someone about it. But now the abuse is often alleged only after an adult began questioning a child. Parents, doctors, teachers, and others have become hypersensitive to the possibility that a child may be sexually abused. Any suspicious circumstance may result in misinterpretation and questioning of a young child who then becomes vulnerable to all of the effects of influence and selective reinforcement. When a story about abuse develops in this fashion, it is not a deliberate fabrication. In most cases of false accusations, the adults are caught up in the account and believe it is true. The purpose of this book is to show what really happens in child interrogations. The interviews in this book are typical of those seen by these authors who hope that by recognizing the problems, the process can be improved and that it will not be necessary in the future to subject children to the type of interviews seen here. Such an end result would often prevent frequent invasions of privacy of the family with the enormous stress and trauma involved.
