The Suffield Craters as Analogues of Impact Structures
註釋During the 1960s, the Suffield (Alberta) test site hosted a series of international trials based on the detonations of high explosive charges, including trials using 20 to 500 tons of TNT. While primarily designed for military purposes, the trials produced craters strikingly similar to features on the surface of the earth and moon. These results were of considerable interest to the wider scientific community. This report compiles results from the high explosive trials, much of which was previously unpublished, published with limited distribution, or widely scattered in open scientific publications and books. Details are provided on the various craters excavated by the larger explosions, including excavated sections, stratigraphy, structural deformations, and circumferential structures. Also included is a discussion of structural analogues of the craters in impact structures.
