註釋Describes stratigraphic, structural, petrographic, and geochemical studies undertaken on southern Vancouver Island 1984-86 as part of phase I of the Lithoprobe project. Two areas were investigated. The first, the main focus of this report, was a corridor extending form Pachena Point to Dunsmuir and centred on Port Alberni. Within this corridor, two multi-channel seismic reflection profiles were obtained, one of which extended over the entire width of the island. Information in this section also includes a review of mineral deposits and a tectonic synthesis. The second area centred on Sooke on the southernmost part of the island, where petrologic studies were specifically directed toward an understanding of Tertiary volcanic and plutonic rocks. This area was also traversed by two seismic surveys.
