With the decision of the Peguis Band Council to assume, in September, 1977 the resoinsibility for the education of their Band members and with the subsequent appointment of five School Board members, the School Board determined that it was crucial to examine the program being offered. The following key areas were evaluated: the quality of education at all grade levels; the quality of materials and equipment available to students and teachers; if there was an age-grade retardation of students; previous academic patterns; success or failure of students who have received education at Peguis School; the number of admissions, transfers, and drop-outs; adequacy of the physical plant; the aspiration of students; the principal(s) and teaching staff; the present role of the community in education; the attitudes of parents, students and education staff in regard to the direction of 'Indian Control of Indian Education'." -- Background of Study.
