註釋
The chief illuminator responsible for this manuscript is François Le Barbier the Younger. Although he orients himself to the models of his forefathers and his compositions remain faithful to their conventional Gothic style, nevertheless he creates his spaces in a broader and lighter manner. The figures are taller and slimmer, noble and remote due to their economy of movement and light, almost with flesh tones for the saints. By contrast, persons of lesser rank display skin colors in shades of gray. The artist's palette is light and bright in general, and in addition to pure colors, such as red and blue, he is fond of using a grayish violet in various hues for the robes. Sparingly, but regularly, he places striking color effects with yellow and orange in the legwear and head coverings, which he uses to guide the viewer's eye through the compositions. The illuminator who created the calendar in the 'Hearst Book of Hours' is named Master of the 'Chronique scandaleuse' after a manuscript for a member of the Dammartin family in the Paris National Library (Clairambault 481).
