註釋This paper aims to analyze the prospect of East Timor's membership to the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). The researchers have come up with a political study, indicating each member-state's stand on East Timor's application using the descriptive method with primary (key informant) and secondary data analysis. From there, the results show both the disadvantages and advantages that the ASEAN has at present. To be able to achieve the main goal of this study, the researchers first ensured East Timor's security in the South East Asian region, the initial step is to deal with transnational crimes. East Timor's prospect to join ASEAN will be for immediate attention to the organization only if it will be secured. Therefore, this will create confidence-building measures for the state; thus, improving the economy of Timor Leste. Looking through the advantages for the region and setting aside political issues, East Timor's future membership to the ASEAN will benefit all member-states economically.
