Our explanations have been popularized as far as possible, and very sparing use has been made of legal expressions likely to embarrass the unlearned reader. But law, like every other art and science, has its tech nical terms. Many of these we have been compelled to use. The meaning of such as occur only once, or only in connection with a particular part of the work, has been given when they are employed. There are some, however, which occur so frequently, and are so far incidental to the whole sulg'ect, that, in order to save repetition, we have thought it better to explain them once for all in a short glossary. And we believe that the meaning of every word which can present the slightest difficulty to non-professional persons will readily be found either in this glossary or in the text.
