Mniejszość żydowska w Bydgoszczy
註釋Traces the history of the Jewish community in Bydgoszcz (German Bromberg up to 1920), concentrating on the interwar period and describing its social, professional, and political structure. Ch. 6 (pp. 112-135) discusses antisemitism and the attitude of Poles toward Jews. States that competition in trade was the main source of Polish hostility. Deals with antisemitic political parties (e.g. Endecja) and organizations (e.g. Rozwoj) which were active in Bydgoszcz. Mentions that one of the most antisemitic journals in Poland in the interwar period, "Szabes-Kurier", was edited in Bydgoszcz. Gives examples of antisemitic campaigns in the town instigated by Endecja and the antisemitic press. Ch. 7 (pp. 136-148) describes the Holocaust period in Bydgoszcz. Many of the Jews fled to eastern Poland before the war. Those who remained were murdered by the Nazis in September-December 1939. Very few Jews (the community numbered ca. 2,000 in 1939) survived the war. An appendix (pp. 151-165) gives a list of Jews who payed their taxes in 1939.
