Communication Competence And The Intensity Of Anxiety And Stress In Medical Staff

We shall see how the use of appropriate communication skills can not only increase patientsu2019 satisfaction with their doctors but also help doctors to feel less frustrated and more satisfied in their work.Background and Aims:The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between communication competences and the selected psychological parameters: anxiety, coping with stress strategies, the sense of mental well-being, the sense of security and generalized self-efficacy in medical staff.Material and methodsThe pilot study, being a part of broader research project, involved 62 medical doctors working in hospital wards, 18 nurses working in hospital wards and 11 psychologists.Results and conclusions*Psychologists are the most open for communication subgroup in comparison to medicaldoctors and nurses, who appear to be the least open in effective communication.*There are no statistically significant differences between medical stuff from invasive, noninvasive and psychiatry group in terms of general communication competences.*The higher the level of self-efficacy the lower the level of state and trait anxiety.*The better the communication competences the less barriers in contacts within the ward team.*The higher communication competences, the better styles of information transfer and conflict resolution in the team.*Individual communication styles are highly connected with team cooperation.*In the group of psychologists, the exaggerated level of self-efficacy creates greater barriers in contact with others (collegues and patients) that in psychologists with moderate level of self-efficacy (the correlation does non concern medical doctors or nurses.*In the group of noninvasive specializations, the higher the level of anxiety the lower the communication competences, while in the psychiatry group the correlation is also significant but reverse*Communication Competency Test has satisfying psychometric properties (Cronbachu2019salpha 0,71).
