Dispersion Management in Fiber Optic Communications
註釋Since the advent of the laser, the use of optical waveguides for communications has been an exciting field of research. Better lasers, improvements in the fabrication process of optical fibers, all-optical amplifiers, and other revolutionizing technologies have enabled communication at record-breaking data throughput. One of these technologies, dispersion management, has revitalized the use of solitons and other pulse-shaped waves as information carriers in fiber optic systems since only the mid-1990s. The concept of dispersion management, however, has enlarged the dimension of the parameter space of system design. It has become increasingly difficult, therefore, to study system designs that yield certain optimizations, and arguably, much of the parameter space remains to be explored.
