註釋
Travel Writing. "Soon after I arrived in India, Mr. Mankekar, the man whose house I lived in, teased me with a cautionary observation: 'If a writer visits India for two or three weeks, he writes a book. If he spends a few months here, he writes an article. If he lives here for a year, he writes nothing.' I lived in India for a year and, though my narrative may appear to ignore Mr. Mankekar's words, I think I've abided by the spirit of his sensible warning. India is overwhelming" ("Foreword"). A good example of the genre, "A Passage Through India" is a fascinating record of the author's journey. Robert Hamburger is the author of Our Portion Of Hell, A Stranger In The House, All The Lonely People, and Two Rooms: The Life Of Charles Erskine Scott Wood.
