Victories of the Martyrs : the Aesthetical Works
註釋Volume 09 of 22 in the Aesthetical Works of St. Alphonsus de Ligouri, first published in 1843. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori was an Italian Catholic bishop, spiritual writer, scholastic philosopher and theologian, and founder of the Redemptorists, an influential religious congregation. He was canonized in 1839 and proclaimed a Doctor of the Church in 1871.In this ninth volume of his "Aesthetical Works", Ligouri reminds the reader that "The most important lesson which we learn from the martyrs is the necessity of the love of God: He who loveth not abideth in deathl." Ligouri details the accounts of many holy men and women, not just saints, but martyrs, those blessed by God to receive the crown of martyrdom and a Baptism of Blood. The saint writes many of these accounts to recommend the reader to imitate their love and devotion. This work is ideal for study and meditation. Reproduced from older English edition, this non-facsimile, non-OCR 2013 edition has been faithfully edited (with about 200 footnotes) to provide a clean and trim appearance of the original text and to continue the proliferation of a great spiritual work.
