註釋At the beginning of the twenty-first century, a generation of children crossed the border from the United States to begin their lives anew in Mexico. While all were international migrants, their roots spread far and wide. Some were migrant returnees born in Mexico; others had only ever known a life in the United States. All children born in Mexico become returnees upon their arrival in Mexico, while children born in the United States arrive in Mexico for the first time in their lives. Yet in Mexico, the attempt to define these youths' affiliations in relation to their new home is much more complex, yielding new insights into our contemporary understanding of integration and belonging. 

This book is the product of twenty-five years' worth of rich, interdisciplinary dialogue and research on these children's trajectories, tracing their complex journeys of integration—and the lack thereof—into Mexican society and institutions.
