註釋
Robin Scroggs, of the Union Seminary, New York, has persistently communicated a sense of connection between New Testament interpretation and the "everyday lives and social needs and contexts of real human beings". He has urged interpreters to "put body and soul together again" by moving beyond an exegetical method that operates "as if believers had minds and spirits unconnected with their individual and corporate lives" to one that attends to the "(dynamic) interaction between social reality and theological assertions".This book reflects in various ways the kinds of connections social condition to theological assertion, context text, text to reader to which Professor Scroggs has dedicated his efforts as a scholar, teacher and theologian. The essays fall into four groups: (1) exploring the social worlds of the New Testament - Graydon F. Snyder, Pamela Eisenbaum, Sara Winter, Cameron Afzal, and Agneta Enermalm; (2) reading the Jewish context of early Christianity - Deirdre Good, Celia Deutsch, Andre LaCocque, Burton J. Visotzky, Gary Gilbert, and Claudia Setzer; (3) understanding Paul - J. Louis Martyn, Michael Winger, Calvin J. Roetzel, Frederick W. Weidmann, and Robert Jewett; (4) interpreting the New Testament for a new day - Daniel Patter, Vincent L. Wimbush, and Virginia Wiles.Virginia Wiles is Assistant Professor of Religion, Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA.Alexandra Brown is Associate Professor of Religion at Washignton and Lee University, Lexingtgton, VA.Graydon F. Snyder is Professor of New Testament, Chicago Theological Seminary.
