註釋1848-1851 journal and letters of James Mason Hutchings (1820-1902), who traveled from England toward the western part of the United States. Hearing of the discovery of gold, he joined a unit of the U.S. Army enroute to California and when his enlistment was completed, became a leading descriptive author of the natural history and beauties of the state. He later became the owner and manager of Hutchings House, a hotel in Yosemite Valley. He married three times and died in Yosemite Valley.
