註釋A collection of twenty autobiographies which were written for competitions organized by the YIVO Institute in Vilna in 1932, 1934, and 1939. YIVO collected 627 autobiographies, most of them in Yiddish, 71 in Polish. The autobiographies exemplify a variety of problems of Jewish youth in Poland in the interwar period. Descriptions of and remarks about antisemitic incidents in Polish schools and universities are scattered throughout the book. The autobiography by "Hanna Jakubowicz" (i.e. Róża Rozenberg, pp. 127-147) deals with violence against Jews by Polish and Soviet soldiers during the Polish-Soviet war in 1920.
