註釋
The objective of this paper is to bring new evidence to the analysis of corporate spawning. We assess the degree to which the level of entrepreneurial spawning is linked to corporate, local establishment and regional attributes. After controlling for firm size and age, spawning is found to be a function of firm productivity and innovativeness. While the number of founders spawned is positively correlated to the number of employees, smaller establishments have more spin-offs per employee. The number of founders also varies predictably by sector according to ease of entry. At the establishment level, we find that establishment size, innovativeness, and corporate function and place characteristics are more important than corporate characteristics in explaining local spawning. In addition, we find that headquarter locations in more entrepreneurial regions are associated with higher rates of spawning both at the corporate and at the local establishments levels.
