註釋Text of a paper presented to The National Indigenous Peoples Shelter Conference (1993; Brisbane); Tangentyere Council is the umbrella organisation for the 18 Aboriginal Housing Associations or town camps in Alice Springs; established in 1977 to assist with Aboriginal housing and living conditions and offers a range of services and programs including land management, municipal services, programs for old people, youth, women etc; mentioned in the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody as a model for local governance which makes it more than just an umbrella organisation for housing; it is a local governing body with political autonomy and therfore an expression and model of Aboriginal self determination.
