Patrick Sweeney and the Giant Paper Airplane
註釋Patrick Sweeney and the Giant Paper Airplane (66K words) is a MG novel that takes place in SkyCity, a fantastical place where kids who don't do their homework find their families split up by the Prefecture of Homework, aka the Homework Police.Eleven-year-old Patrick Sweeney has a talent for making paper airplanes but finds himself in over his head-high above the ground-when a giant paper airplane lifts him into the air. The otherworldly aircraft carries Patrick over a vast city with enormous towers, much larger than any he's seen before. The airplane then shuttles him through a tower window, into the apartment of fellow student Merilee Baragon. She tells Patrick he's landed in SkyCity, where families are split up when kids don't do their homework.Merilee is an excellent student and aviator, which makes Patrick jealous. He takes back control of the giant paper airplane and flies Merilee away into the night, which leads to her homework being incomplete. When the Prefect of Homework tracks Merilee down, she and Patrick fly away and flee SkyCity, but they find more danger in a bamboo forest, a giant cave, and a mysterious cloud concealing a huge, fire-tongued snake. It's the start of an exciting quest to reunite families, eliminate homework, and simply stay alive!Patrick is an introverted dreamer, a romantic and a reluctant hero who's challenged by Merilee. Together they overcome incredible challenges as the power of their imaginations holds them aloft and propels them-above and beyond the chilling fog of routine and drudgery that inevitably creeps into all our lives. In Patrick Sweeney and the Giant Paper Airplane, imagination is the "magic" that drives the story, paired with elements celebrated in 1984, James and the Giant Peach, and Miyazaki's Kiki's Delivery Service.
