Effect of an Oscillating Quadrupole Field on the Kink Modes of a Screw Pinch
註釋Dynamic stabilization of the kink modes in a linear z pinch by means of oscillating quadrupole fields has been reported by Orlinskii. We investigate the case of the screw pinch (with longitudinal magnetic field, as in a [theta] pinch) where the modes are helical. The quadrupole field (with no twist or rotational transform) couples the left- and right-handed modes, giving two new normal modes, one of which is unstable. The unstable normal mode is not stabilized by the oscillating quadrupole.
