Tocqueville
註釋Alexis de Tocqueville was born of aristocratic parents shortly after the French Revolution, but he was to become perhaps the greatest liberal thinker of the nineteenth century. At an early age he distanced himself from the prejudices of his class, and as a man he threw himself into the struggle to establish representative government in France. This book explores the context of his thought, showing how he used American beliefs and practices to reform the European idea of the state.
