He migrated to Australia from the UK as a child, and became a writer, activist and researcher in Australia. His previous publications include, with Jan Hutchinson, TwoTiming. Sex, Writing and the Writing of Sex (1991); A Guide to Gay and Lesbian Writing in Australia (1996) and Then and Now. Gay Men and HIV (2003).
