註釋Henry Davis writes to his brother Richard in Waterford, Saratoga County, New York, 18 May 1831. He reports that "Benjamin Clements says he will see that you get his oil of opaldeldoch [i.e. Opodeldoc, a medical plaster or liniment] intended as an applicative for your back. Sarah observed that the Spirits of Turpintine [sic] had no effect, and you will read directions attached to this medicine before applying. I think you ought to try and keep trying every medicine supposed to be good, do not despair or give up ..."
