The basic component of a freshly tapped natural rubber latex consists of 50% to 80% water and varies according to the season, weather, soil conditions, clone, tapping system etc. The true moisture content of the latex must be determined to ensure the quality and a fair price. The application of microwave reflection techniques is proposed in order to develop an accurate, rapid, ease of operation and portable instruments. The experimental results, showed the reflected wave from the semi-infinite thickness of the sample, give a good relationship with the moisture content. This technique also gives a better sensitivity for a range of moisture content between 70% to 100% as compared with transmission technique. [Authors' abstract].
