Dobson and Ward's Animation examines animation as one of the most pervasive categories of television. Rather than discussing animation as a straightforward 'genre' in the commonly understood sense of the term, however, it instead explores the ways in which animation can be said to be an intriguing problem for genre studies. It examines a number of specific types of television animation, from sitcoms to more experimental work, from channel idents and credits to entire series, from animation for children to animation for adults.

This volume introduces students - and the undergraduate reader in particular - to central debates about and approaches to studying television animation, contextualising these discussions in relation to notions of genre more broadly.
