1. Red blood cells are otherwise known as erythrocytes.
2. The red colour of the red blood cell (RBC) is because of the presence of the colouring pigment known as hemoglobin.
3. RBC are larger in number compared to the other two blood cells such as white blood cell (WBC) and platelets.
4. The RBC count ranges between 4 and 5.5 million per cu mm of blood.
5. In adult male, the RBC count is 5 million cu mm and in adult female, RBC count is 4.5 million cu mm.
