註釋Memoirs of a Polish Jew from Zdunska Wola, born Heszel Glazer. Pp. 171-301 deal with the Nazi period, describing persecution of Jews after the Nazi invasion in September 1939, ghettoization in summer 1940, and deportations from 1941. In August 1942 the ghetto in Zdunska Wola was liquidated. Gill's father and brothers were killed in gas vans on their way to Chelmno; he and his mother were sent to the Lodz ghetto for forced labor, and two years later to Auschwitz. Gill was sent to a Messerschmidt labor camp near Dessau, which was bombed by the Allies, and then to two other small camps in the forests before reaching Dachau, from where he was sent to the Waldlager labor camp. He escaped one day during an air-raid and was taken in by a Bavarian family for a short time until his liberation by French forces in April 1945; he emigrated to Palestine the same year.
