Thinning of High-Energy Air Showers
註釋High-energy cosmic rays produce extensiva showers in the atmosphere. The reconstruction of shower properties by measuring particle densities on the ground requires a reliable computer simulation. The maximum number of particles in an electron shower of energy 10[sup]20 eV extends to 10[sup]11, which makes tracking of all the particles impossible. Thus, tracking of a representative sample of particles has to be introduced. This method is called thinning. Inthis paper we report on a study of electromagnetic part of high-energy cosmic-ray showers. As a result, a new thinning method is proposed. The simulation programme was originally written with GEANT 3.21. The thinning method was then implemented also in AIRES. New thinning method gives the same reconstructed shower properties as the old one, but the performance is better.
