註釋Examines the situation of the Jews in the Polish Army before World War II against the background of Polish-Jewish relations from the late 19th century, and analyzes the "Jewish question" in the years 1939-45. Consecutive chapters describe the Jewish situation in Polish military formations in France and Great Britain (1942-44), in the Polish Army in the USSR and during its evacuation (1941-42), during the stationing of Polish formations in Palestine (1942-44), and in Great Britain between 1943-45. States that there were many cases of antisemitism, and analyzes them in the larger political context. Discusses the different interests of Poles and Jews in general, as well as their conflicting reactions to some political events, e.g. the favorable reaction of some Jews to the Soviet occupation of eastern parts of Poland, which caused a groundless hostility of Poles toward the entire Jewish population. Analyzes, also, the desertion of some of the Jewish soldiers in Palestine. At the end of the war the political aims of Poles and of Jewish survivors were not the same, due to the Jewish memory of the Holocaust and the feeling that a common future was no longer possible.
