註釋Thomas Johnson doesn't find the support he needs to develop his tree nursery in northern Michigan. He lands a job working for the only cherry orchard in this part of the state instead. He soon finds that Casper Graham, the boss, doesn't pay his workers enough to keep them all prosperous. Due to Thomas' idealism and ambition, he and his fellow workers establish their own cherry orchard and begin to give Casper competition at the cannery. As things seem to be going okay, Thomas becomes sick with pneumonia and can't work as a laborer in the cherries any more. Through his faith and that of Devon Longwhistle's, he finds a way to work as boss for their own cherry orchard: Cherry-O. Things happen rapidly, with twists and turns, venturing into an uncertain future they strive to make it possible for both Cherry-O and Pine Grove Cherry Orchards to keep going.
