James B. Gilman Papers
註釋James B. Gilman of Hartford, Connecticut was employed first as a druggist and later as a manufacturer of looking glasses. In 1835 Gilman completed an apprenticeship with Harvey Seymour, also of Hartford. In 1838 he was working as a druggist at 201 Main St., Hartford. The correspondence, invoices, and receipts in the collection indicate Gilman was dealing with customers all along the east coast. By 1843 J.B. Gilman had taken over Eli Gilman's looking glass manufacturing business. The bulk of the collection is receipts, but there is also personal correspondence (.5 linear feet), particularly with Henry A. King of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Also among the correspondence are papers of other Gilman family members.
