Microdialysis sampling was used to study the effect of Kopsingine, Fruticosamine, Fruticosine, Eburnamonine, Voacangine and Conopharyngine on the release of dopamine in the substantia nigra of the rat brain. Kopsingine, Fruticosamine, Fruticosine and Eburnamonine were extracted from Kopsia sp. while Voacangine and Conopharyngine were extracted from Tabernaemontana macrocarpa. A dialysis probe was constructed and implanted stereotaxically into the substantia nigra. The concentrations of dopamine and its metabolite, 3,4-dihydroxyphenyl acetic acid were monitored prior to and after the addition of the alkaloid at three different concentrations, i.e. 4.3 x 10-2 M, 4.3 x 10-9M and 4.3 x 10-10M.
