Youth and Drugs
註釋This book addresses questions from the public about legal and illegal psychoactive drugs and related educational policies centered on American adolescents. Most of the questions were drawn from the website of the Safety First Office in San Francisco (www.safetyfirst.org), an affiliate of the national Drug Policy Alliance. Additional questions posed by the author inevitably emerged in organizing this material. As this occurred, and to be consistent with the book's format, the author developed and answered new questions to cover these gaps. After an introductory section on the "drug problem" and related public policy issues as well as a definition of adolescence, the book answers queries about specific psychoactive drugs (including alcohol), their effects and possible consequences of use, criminalization of private use, prevention and treatment approaches, and, inevitably, assesses the logic and effectiveness of the War on Drugs, especially as it relates to contemporary youth in America. Given this organization, the first part of the book is an overall orientation. The rest of the book is a comprehensive reference source for anyone interested in youth and drugs.
