James D. and Joseph W. Harris Papers
註釋Mainly letters written by the brothers to their relatives while in military service. Letters of James D. Harris from occupied New Orleans, Apr.-Aug., 1862, document daily military life, battlefield horrors, and northern attitudes toward the South and its citizens. Joseph Whipple Harris letters describe life aboard ship in Panama and a visit to Hawaii in 1861. Also James D. Harris' pre-war letters containing descriptions of Chicago, materials documenting Joseph Whipple Harris' death, and miscellaneous family correspondence.
