註釋Surveys the history of illegal newspapers and pamphlets published in the Netherlands during the German occupation, including the writers, printers, managers, and couriers. Many of them were active in other forms of resistance (e.g. sabotage, espionage, and assistance to Jews). Includes a list of ca. 700 members of the press, amongst them Jews, who perished in camps or by execution. Pp. 120-136 discuss articles against the Aryan declaration, against the expulsion of Jews from the civil service and from schools, on the February 1941 strike in Amsterdam, on the role of the Jewish Council, against the yellow badge, and against the deportations. Pp. 170-176 report on an interview with the Dutch Jews Bea Polak and Leo Schatz on their activities in the resistance and the illegal press in The Hague. Pp. 186-195 relate the involvement of Andries Ekker in the organization of an escape route for Jews to Switzerland and his activities in the publication of illegal bulletins.
