História dos cristãos-novos portugueses
註釋Describes the history of the Jews of Portugal during the reigns of several kings (15th-18th centuries). Discusses persecutions suffered by Jews and Conversos before and after the expulsion in 1497. Deals with the polemics between Christians and Jews and different ways that Conversos maintained their Jewish heritage in secret. Analyzes laws promulgated concerning Conversos. The Inquisition was established in Portugal in 1536 and created a new social reality. On the one hand, the Conversos preserved their Judaism, and on the other, they assimilated with Old Christian families in order to legitimize their position.
