The Planners -- Installment 2
註釋The Planners -- Installment 1 tracked two groups of very different people on parallel journeys, unaware of each other until collision in the Canadian Rockies wilderness-with fatal results. Beginning in Seattle, four men fled a brutal armored car robbery; eight men and women embarked on a company camping trip. The protagonist, Greg Matheson, endured combat in Viet Nam, and although emotional detachment defined his life, he had achieved relative peace as a sporting goods store manager. After triumphing as the sole survivor of the camper's battle with the robbery crew, Greg recounted his harrowing struggle to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and neglected to mention witnessing the four men bury eight suspicious suitcases. The Planners -- Installment 2 opens with Greg in Banff, explaining his survival struggles to an old army buddy from Kalispell, Montana, Brady Edwards. Greg enlists Brady to assist with the retrieval and sharing of the still suspicious suitcases. Greg and Brady come to learn the suitcases contain $6 million-plus in cash from the armored car heist, which just coincidentally occurred in Seattle.Unfortunately for Greg and Brady, two rogue Seattle detectives, Mike Casata and Karen Shimoto, stumble by chance on the connection between the armored car takedown and the gang who attacked Greg and his friends in the Canadian wilderness. Mike and Karen do not accept as coincidence the gang attacking a group of people also from Seattle. Mike is adamant Greg somehow has complicity in the robbery and knows the whereabouts of the money. Mike's suspicions are half-right. Mike and Karen retire from the force and purchase a van to embark on an ambitious surveillance routine targeting Greg and his acquaintances.Greg and Brady, along with Brady's wife, Jean, and Greg's new Kalispell love interest, Cindy Krauss, begin a series of dangerous reverse cat-and-mouse expeditions to Canada to try and draw Mike and Karen into the open as they prepare to dig up the suitcases.
