TEM Studies of the Grain Size and Phases of Mechanically Alloyed Binary Cu-5wt% Y Alloy
註釋A copper-5wt%yttrium alloy was synthesized from elemental powders using mechanically alloying for different durations up to 20h. The sample milled for 20h was heat treated at 500 C for 2h. TEM was used to study the changes in grain size with milling duration as well as the effect of heat treatment of these Cu-5wt% Y powders. It was found that the grain size of Cu reduced from 1.1+0.3 um to 46+20 nm when the mill duration increased from 0.5h. Heat treatment at 500 C for 2h for powders milled for 20h resulted in grain growth to 59+20 nm. Metastable phase of Cu5Y/Cu4Y was also present in the samples as found by TEM. [Authors' abstract].
