註釋Illustrated children's encyclopedia compiled by Johann Amos Comenius, embodying his philosophy of education, and his belief in the visual powers of teaching. The encyclopedia is clearly designed for children, with the aim of "explaining the world." Every trade, occupation, bird, beast, plant, natural phenomenon, etc. presented is illustrated, with the illustrations numbered for reference to the explanations contained in the accompanying text. The present polyglot edition is in Latin, German, Italian, and French. The Latin and German parts had been revised by Schönleben, the French and Italian parts by Carel Coutelle, a language teacher at Nuremberg.
